Couple Sells Kids for Video Games

Everyone knows that addiction is an evil cycle, one that spirals out of control quickly. For addicts, they’ll do whatever they can to get their next fix, whether it’s lie, cheat, steal, or sell whatever they can to get money to feed their next high. Maybe they’ll sell a family heirloom or something else that has value, but selling their own children? That’s a new one.

But a couple in China sold all three of their children in exchange for money to feed their Internet gaming addiction. They sold their 2 sons and 1 daughter for a total of $9,700. After they were turned in by a family member, they claimed they didn’t know selling their children was illegal.

While many might think this is just a case of bad parenting, we have to look at it as more than that. Gaming is a real addiction – it’s not just a hobby for some people. It can overrun reality and make individuals do things they never would have dreamed of doing.
